StarGazing at the Open University
National Astronomy Week 2014
The evening’s activities will include: a series of astronomy talks in the Robert Hooke Seminar Room, use of telescopes in and around the OU’s George Abell Observatory to look at Jupiter and the Moon (weather permitting), and a series of hands-on activities in Berrill Café area. These latter will involve meteorites, space satellites, the OU’s own robotic telescope PIRATE, build your own working cardboard telescope and shows in an inflatable planetarium. The whole event is free, but tickets for the timed talks, observatory tours and planetarium shows will be issued on the night on a first-come first-served basis.
Astronomy Talks:
7.40pm : “Stars ‘R’ Us” by Dr. Anita Dawes
8.15pm : “Planets around other stars” by Dr. Carole Haswell
8.50pm : “The origin of the Universe” by Dr. Lucia Marchetti
