CDAS ObservatoryM82 with SN

An opportunity to learn about and observe the night sky with a variety of telescopes and binoculars in the company of local astronomers. The planet Jupiter will be the highlight but there’s plenty more to see including the Moon, nebulae, galaxies and star clusters. Above you can see the supernova in the Cigar Galaxy (M82) as photographed from Cleethorpes. This cataclysmic explosion happened nearly 12 million years ago but the light has only just reached us. So wrap up warmly and come and meet the Universe. We shall also be taking part in the national Star Count organised by the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Don’t worry if its cloudy we can show you all the constellations, planets and deep sky objects in our meeting room using planetarium and Solar System software.

These events are free of charge and no booking is required.

There won’t be any parking at the observatory but it is only a short walk from Montgomery Road. Please visit our website for more details or contact Mike Brightmore on (01472) 509880 or email:   michael.brightmore@ntlworld.com
