This Year, National Astronomy Week 2014 celebrates Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, which will reach its highest point in the sky for many years in early March. NAW runs from March 1st -8th
The Whitby and District Astronomical Society are planning to host two public star parties, one on the 2nd (Sunday night) and the other on Friday 7th. Both will be from the Bruce Observatory, Whitby Community College, the first event from 7pm, the second from 8pm. Hopefully if the clouds keep away we shall be to view a transit of Io (with shadow) across Jupiter’s disk on the 2nd and a similar event involving Europa on the 7th. The great red spot will also be in view.
